Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker
The Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is one of the most reviewed knife sharpeners on Amazon, and I think it’s only fitting that I write a review of it for those who are curious to learn what’s it all about. It’s a different kind of sharpener that a lot of people are wondering if it can replace the bench sharpeners and the like, so keep reading to get my verdict.
Really, don’t get mistaken by the package you get it in when you open your box from the mail. The package is small, but it’s very complete. The Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker comes with an instructional DVD of about an hour long.
This gives clearer instructions on how to use the Spyderco and gives you an actual visual reference on how to use the method and system perfectly. The DVD provides every information you need about the product and I doubt you will even want to hop online for some clarifications.
The box itself is very cool. When you’re done with the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, you can put each part right in their respective compartment and take this very portable package with you. Again, this proves to me that everything has been well thought on this sharpener.
How does it work?
Now to give you an idea of the process, it’s pretty manual. On the two stones, you go up and down with your knife, about 20 times on each side, before you switch the stone and move on to another step of the process, which again, is clearly indicated in the manual and DVD.
According to the descriptions, the stones you get with this sharpener are 2 sets of high alumina ceramic stones, which include a pair of medium-grit and a set of fine stones. These stones let you sharpen a lot of things from knives to scissors and even fishhooks. The stones are switched instantly. You just have to insert them in the appropriate holes or rotate them when you need to.
What’s good about this? Well, one of the main advantages is that there’s no oil or water involved. You just go right in with your knives and do the necessary numbers of strokes.
What I liked
Well, we talked about how it works, but it’s really the results that you get that make this worth the purchase. People are quite simply reporting razer sharp knives after each sharpening and I must say that it’s been the same for me. Don’t get mistaken by its weird shape or whatever, because it really works.
Aside from the product itself I must say that I really enjoy the way it was presented and I thought it made it even more fun to use. With some of the other sharpeners out there, all you get is the product and a bit of that intimidating feeling if you’re a beginner, but that won’t happen with the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker and all its supportive content.
What I disliked
I didn’t really dislike anything about the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, but I know that a lot of people will find it a bit slow, especially beginners who are looking for a quick sharpening. It’s tough to find any weakness on this sharpener really. It might just be turned away by the people who prefer electronic devices, but aside from that, this one can go right in your shopping cart. It isn’t a best-seller for no reason.
Where to buy it
The Spyderco TriAngle Sharpmaker is a great product to buy on the web. It’s readily available all over, and while its price might vary depending on the store, the most you will pay is its default retail price of $99.95. Reviews on Amazon are great not only because the results are there, but because it can often be found discounted, which triggers an even greater satisfaction when you get sharpenings this good after paying $58.54 like we’ve last seen it.
In conclusion, I found it very clear why the Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker is one of the most appreciated ways of sharpening knives. I’m at least sure that the Internet crowd fell in love with it, and I know I did as well. Besides other big brands like Smith’s, this is what I would recommend to anyone.
